NAME OF INDONESIA IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES

People Indonesia Indonesia to name their children with a variety of ways. With more than 17,000 islands and a variety of cultures and local languages, Indonesia does not have a specific rule in giving a name. Some particular tribe has a surname which is derived from parent to child. Other tribes do not know the name of the family.

The concept of the family name is unknown in some cultures of Indonesia, such as Javanese culture. Therefore, many people until now have only one name, is a gift. If they then leave or stay in the countries that require each population to have at least two names (the name and surname gift), difficulties may occur. The solution is usually taken is to repeat the name twice.

Some other cultures have rules about the family name or clan name. In the Batak culture and Manado, for example, the name of the father passed on to their children (patrilineal). In the Minangkabau culture, which inherited the name is the name of the mother (matrilineal). Some names are derived from the Arabic have been absorbed into the name of Indonesia, such as Hambali, Shihab, Assegaf, etc..

Then the people of Java, Bali and some of the Madurese and Sundanese also often use the name derived from Sanskrit. Tionghoa people in menindonesiakan Tionghoa name often used the Sanskrit names as well. Some examples: prefix su (eg Suharto, Sukarno, Sumantri, Sudono etc..), Arya, chakra, Gunawan, Iwan, Santosa, Setiawan, Puspa, Ratna, Retno, Sita, Sinta, Sundari, Wati, Wijaya, Vishnu etc..
